Finally, the vinyl house episode is here! I learned a lot from this episode and building one of this is not as difficult as it looks. Now I wish I have a bigger house that can fit all these gardening stuff. Imagine just pluck your veggie and go straight to kitchen to process, that's freshness!
At the rate this project going, which turned out they started this quite sometime ago, we'll have tons of this garden episode or snipets of it for quite some time XD

Aiba-chan starts the episode with 'what we can eat?' LOL ikinari? hahaha

So they're targetting at kuushinsai aka water spinach (I finally get the google translate work for me)

Aiba-chan is proudly going to show you the easy recipe for this.

Cut water spinach & throw into the wok for stir fry, then add on 1 can of crab meat.

short gag of 'iindesu!'

Let the water evaporate and we're done! Looks good!

Obligatory Aiba-chan cute eating face, ha!

So here's the Manabu Saien Recipe #1: Kuushinsai with kani --> Ingredients: 70g kuushinsai plus 1 can of kani. That's hella easy!

So they're going to utilize the bed room to for planting the summer plants! From top left: cucumber, bittergourd, king tomato, mini tomato, strawberry, mulukhiya (I'm interested on what recipe come out from this), and basil

Watabe: so growing summer plants inside your house is?
Sensei: reckless
LOL

But if using vinyl house, it's possible because we can control the temperature.

Easy points for setting up your own summer plantation inside your house: 1. Control temperature in the vinyl house 2. use LED light

So they make a short visit to the light plantation (maybe).
Aiba: It looks like taning salon
LOL

So leaves like red and blue light

OK quite self explanatory. The red light stimulates photosynthesis, while the blue light is to grow.
Naruhodou! See, this is EDUCATIONAL LOL

So, this is what you need for your vinyll house. Not cheap, but think about the return of investment LOL

Are? Sensei changed clothes.
Sawabe: Sensei on holiday.

Our sunshine boy working hard while looking pretty!

So, for summer plants, the planter looks like the pool planter! Self explanatory.

They're inhaling basil smell LOL...

So first they're targetting the companion plants, tomato and basil.

So that's how you plant, by alternating.
Sawabe: this looks like tomato and basil having goukon (=group dates).
LOL

so that's how you plant your tomato, make the new roots grow to absorb more nutrition and water.

They've been dreaming on this tomato, basil and mozzarella cheese dish since last episode. Soon, Aiba-chan, soon.
LOL

Point in planting strawberries. see that red bulb there?

Don't burry that red part, your plant will die.

So plant it like this.

So, sensei suggesting strawberry is good for christmas (for christmas cake) but sensei himself is not doing anything for christmas, instead sensei said he's a buddhist... and look how big Aiba-chan laughs LOL

So they plant the moroheiya in the same pot as strawberries but on the other side of the plot.

Now they're talking about planting the bittergourd and cucumber. Both needs to be grown in around 30C temperature and can grow up to 2m height.

So if it's too tall they need to cut the tip of the new buds. (something like that)

So, this is what bittergourd seeds look like:
Aiba-chan: it looks like supplement
LOL, it does

So they dig about 2cm dept and plant 2 seeds at each spots. Why?

Rough translation: it's to increase the chance of sprouting and later the better ones will be left aka we pluck out the not so good ones.

Same thing done for the cucumbers

So last episode has 'genki ni naare'. Now we have the manlier phrase: detekoi!

Cuteness overload:
For bittergourd: Gouya de Go Go
For cucumber: kappa mo daisuki kyuuri

Ah this is the difference between the sprinkler up and down, it's to control the water pressure

The sprouts should come out in 3 days.

They bought olive plant... So, does this mean that we're going to see an olive oil making episode???

So the light pannel have to be placed about 50cm above the ground.

And don't forget the spot lights too...

They on the light and put the termometer as well. Current temperature is 26C

At night it could go down to 10-15C. They need to light the plants for 12 to 14 hours a day.

Dekita!!!

It's looks nice and neat!

They set the timer as well for the lights. It's a shame that they didn't show us how to connect all those lights with the timer.

So, as a busy idol, there's no way Aiba-chan can maintain this planters everyday, so they call in a celebrity who's free to help on with the maintenance.

So in 3 days, all those sprouts start to pop up.

then it's time to weed out so that it's not too crowded, else I can imagine the plants will die malnourished and lack of space.

So what do we do with the sprouts? DO NOT THROW AWAY.
So, they convert the sprouts for komatsuna and hatsuka daikon into misoshiru and ohitashi.

So, after 1 month, these 3 gets to see the result LOL

They're checking the living room first.

They're all growing, so nice!!!

And on the vinyl house, it's growing too. And there's the mini tomato!

Time for Manabu saiyen recipe #2! This time they hit on the parsley.

Take just the leave only!

Bonus cap: prettiness...

So what are they going to do with the parsley? They're making Parsley fried rice!
Ingredients: 10g parsley; 15g bacon; 150g rice; vegetable oil 1 tsp; salt pepper as needed

1. mince 10gr parsley
2. throw bacon to wok for stir fry

Point: 3. throw half of parsley in and stir

4. add on rice
5. add on remaining parsley and stir

Done!!!!

Another obligatory eating cap

Sawabe commented that the parsley is so fragrant
Aiba-chan: now you understand ne Sawabe-kun! *noting on the point #3)
LOL

This seriously looks good!
Look forward to more to come for this project!

Date: 2014-10-06 05:44 am (UTC)aiba manabu is a good show, light entertainment and educative no matter how random. off coz, not all episodes are gold. the earlier ones are full of trial and error, there are episodes with information overload, tgey learn to balance entertainment and information along the way, and the result is the recent episodes. i think they also realize that some topics are really helplessly boring, so they slip those in between those exciting ones.
